Homeopathy was founded in the late 1700s by German physician, chemist, and gifted polymath, Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann. The impetus behind homeopathy (homeo = similar, pathy = suffering) was found early in Hahnemann’s career as a medical doctor. He quickly perceived that many mainstream medical practices of his time were harmful, and he took moral issue with them. The current methods of his time included blood-letting, blistering, purgatives, and high doses of chemical drugs, which may have contributed to patient deaths when combined with their underlying illness. Hahnemann could not, in good conscience, continue this harm, so he quit the profession.
Fluent in six, and later at least 10 languages, he spent his next years making a living by translating various scientific and medical texts. It was while translating the ancient Cullen's Materia Medica, and reading about the bitterness and astringent properties of Cinchona (Peruvian Bark), that the lightbulb turned on, so to speak. Because of his in-depth understanding of various medical texts, Hahnemann knew that Cinchona was used, often very successfully, to treat Malaria, but he questioned that the astringency was responsible for its dramatic healing effect.
Deciding to experiment, he took small quantities of the substance, which temporarily produced Malaria-like symptoms in himself, a healthy person. He realized the Hippocratic observation of “similia similibus curantur” (“like cures like"), was likely to explain the efficacy of Cinchona in treating Malaria.
And thus a new, gentle, but powerful system of medicine was born.
From the very beginning, I knew homeopathy was life-changing. In 2006, in a dire state of long-standing ill-health, I began my homeopathic journey not knowing how drastically the course of my life would change for the better. Within five minutes of taking five little homeopathic pellets, a serious and deeply embedded condition lifted; I felt my strength begin to return, and I felt hopeful for the first time in months. Within a few days, my condition lifted entirely.
Since then, in a permanent state of grateful awe, I have immersed myself in the Gift of homeopathy. I'm currently finishing my formal schooling at the rigorous Academy of Homeopathy Education. I'll be graduating in the fall of 2024 and sitting for my CCH (Certified Classical Homeopath via the Council for Homeopathic Certification) in April, 2025. Over the years, I have successfully applied the principles and remedies of homeopathy to men, women, pregnant/birthing/lactating mothers, infants, children, and pets for a myriad of conditions including exhaustion, menstrual difficulties, coughs/colds/flus, ear infections, pink-eye, seasonal allergies, food poisoning, broken bones, and even unresolved grief.
The name Sweetwater encompasses my love for the area in which I live, my faith in Jesus Christ, and the method by which homeopathic remedies are delivered.
